Leyton Orient lost 2-1 as they faced Mansfield Town at the Matchroom Stadium in Sky Bet League Two and have now lost two out of their first five games.

Mitchell Rose was the man to open the scoring in the second half minutes before captain Liam Kelly gained a much needed equaliser.

But Matt Green, who Orient are reportedly interested in signing before the end of the transfer window, got his third goal of the season after he made a terrible penalty miss in the first half.

O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler made some tactical second half substitutions as he took on Paul McCallum and Jordan Bowery but they failed to gain their third win in a row.

Orient started the livelier of the two as the got an early corner in the third minute but Dean Cox’s corner was short towards Sandro Semedo but his shot came off Tom Parkes.

Quickly down the other end, The Stags’s Kevan Hurst whipped in a free kick and Green got something on it but Alex Cisak easily held. Former Mansfield striker Ollie Palmer could have opened the scoring in the 10th minute against his former side as Cox and Cornick combined down the right and the latter delivered in a cross which was headed over by the striker.

Semedo produced a lovely ball in early in the first half and it dropped right into the path of Palmer and he could not keep the ball down and it flew over the crossbar in what was a great opportunity missed.

But Mansfield went straight up the other end and created another chance of their own but Matt Green could only manage to direct a shot wide.

Yvan Erichot was penalised for a foul on Krystian Pearce and Green took a stuttering run up to take the penalty and it went well over the bar for the score to remain 0-0 in the 22nd minute.

Two minutes later, Parkes did well to get back quickly as he cleared the ball off the line to deny the away side from opening the scoring.

Palmer was furious he was not awarded a penalty and remonstrated with the linesman and he received a yellow card by referee Kevin Johnson for his protests.

Semedo then tried his luck after he cut inside the area but his shot went just wide of the post as Orient continued to search for the first goal of the game.

Harry Cornick continued to show why O’s boss Hessenthaler wanted to sign him in the summer as he produced some tricky footwork on the right as he found Cox but he could only head over.

No changes were made to either side at the start of the second half but five minutes later former Orient striker Darius Henderson was subbed for Chris Hamilton.

Cox sent in a curling ball into the box and Parkes is the one who jumped the highest but he could only managed to head wide.

But it was The Stags who should have got the first goal after the corner came into the penalty area and Pearce met it at the back post but Cisak made an excellent save as the O’s survived the scare.

Pearce almost produced a moment to forget for the away team as he headed a Cox cross towards his own goal and it went just over the bar.

But it was Hurst’s cross who hurt the dominant O’s side as Rose lashed the ball home against the run of play.

However, the east London club gained their equaliser from their captain Kelly as he side footed a shot beyond Brian Jenson from 20-yards after being teed up by Bowery.

Green however made up for his awful miss in the first half as he fired the visitors back in front in what was a game of many missed opportunities for Leyton Orient.
